A blue sapphire framed by silver mountains -- These words I had chosen to describe Ысык көл (pron.: Issyk Kol), the famous mountainous lake located in the Ala Too Mountains; only to find that these words already had been coined by the Russian scientist and traveler Piotr Semyonov-Tienshansky more than a century ago. Well, not exactly, he compared the lake to an emerald ... Issyk Kol -- the lake and the region -- is a wonderful spot, recreational area for Kyrgyz and other people, a place of legends and history. |
Let us take a rest at Issyk Kol
Issyk Kol -- the name translates to Hot Lake -- twinkles like a lovely gemstone out of this rough landscape. Surrounded by the 4,000 m summits of the Ala Too mountains the Hot Lake invites to take a break in it's warm, lightly salted water. Long sand beaches and a fantastic panoramic view makes swimming and sporting at this place an unforgettable experience.
